Description
Here are a couple views of my latest sculpture, Star Lotus.
It's a few feet in diameter, check these images for a better sense of scale: Far--[link] Above--[link]
Modeled after the Nymphaea nouchali, or Star Lotus, using quilt batting, wire, hot glue, pipe cleaners, cotton swabs, and spray paint.
It's currently on display in the library of my college, and will be for about a month.
Artist statement accompanying this piece:
My work is intended to capture or create beauty in and for our world. I enjoy evoking happiness and wonder with my creations. My pieces often utilize radial symmetry, flowing lines, and unique structures that attempt to push the envelope of feasibility; requiring a careful touch in order to be successful. Complexity is incorporated to create a unique and interesting piece that will keep your mind active. In this piece, I wanted to make a grandiose representation of the Nymphaea nouchali, or Star Lotus, a flower that so graciously exhibits beautiful, contrasting colors not often seen together in nature.

Awesome! Im considering making a lotus out of soapstone. Do you mind if i use this for reference? The angel of the photo is perfect.
